Clickhouse Engineer

Overview

PostHog is hiring a Clickhouse Engineer to manage and operate the Clickhouse cluster and query layer used by all teams and customers.

Job Description

PostHog helps developers build successful products by providing a suite of tools for analysis, testing, observation, and deployment of new features. As an open-source project from Y Combinator's W20 cohort, PostHog has seen significant growth and adoption.

Responsibilities

- Develop tooling for full and incremental backup and restore processes for ClickHouse clusters
- Create schema and mutation management tools
- Enhance visibility into cluster statuses
- Automate dynamic provisioning of instances using Terraform and Ansible
- Build query benchmarking and performance tooling
- Optimize schema, queries, and cluster configurations

Required Skills

- Proficiency in Python, Kubernetes, and AWS
- Experience building and operating high-scale complex data storage solutions
- Strong interest and experience in ClickHouse (or similar OLAP databases) internals and query performance optimization
- Ability to thrive in a culture of autonomy and self-direction
- Experience with Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation (nice to have)
