Staff Software Engineer (Test Platform Engineering)

Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Engineer to contribute to Developer Productivity, with a focus on Test Platform Engineering. Our team’s flagship platforms provide lightweight test frameworks for every layer, synthetic identities, test data seeding, endpoint mocking, and overall testing infrastructure. These tools enable Affirm Engineering Teams to perform automated, deterministic testing with consistency across locations. Additionally, we support our partner teams in conducting exploratory testing, allowing us to collaboratively evolve our ways of working.
Responsibilities
- - Partner with stakeholders to align on roadmaps, strategy, and vision for the Test Platform Engineering team.
- - Lead technical decisions, initiatives, and roadmaps within the Developer Productivity team and beyond.
- - Collaborate with other technical leads, management, and stakeholders across the organization to design and implement solutions that extend beyond the team’s scope and require cross-functional collaboration.
- - Lead and mentor engineers, helping them to grow and succeed.
- - Provide guidance to engineers across the organization to improve their code quality and testing skills.
- - Work closely with teammates from engineering, product, and design backgrounds to craft best-in-class systems and processes around test frameworks and infrastructure, with the ultimate goal of enabling them to build the best financial products.
- - On-Call Rotation - There would be an on-call rotation for this role as a requirement
Required Skills
- - 7+ years of software development experience.
- - Strong sense of ownership with a proven track record of successfully driving large cross-functional technical programs.
- - Prior experience in designing, building, launching, and maintaining consumer-scale products.
- - Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams, both written and spoken, with proficiency in asynchronous communication methods such as written tech specs, RFCs, wiki entries, project plans, etc.
- - Proficiency in either back-end or front-end development, with a particular focus on testing.
- - Working experience in Python, Kotlin, and/or React is a significant advantage.
- - Experience in building or contributing to test automation frameworks and infrastructure is highly desirable.
- - Familiarity with practices like Test-Driven Development (TDD) is a plus.
- - A passion for improving consumer financial services.
