Director, Global Talent Acquisition

Overview

GiveDirectly is at an inflection point. We've grown significantly over the past several years and are now positioned for a step-change in scale, with ambitions that would require a fundamentally different recruiting capability than what most organizations have built.

Job Description

GiveDirectly has delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty across 15 countries since 2011. We believe cash transfers are one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid, with the research to back it up.

Responsibilities

  • - Manage and coach the team (currently two managers, five ICs) to develop as true business partners
  • - Build a team culture of accountability, proactive ownership, and continuous improvement
  • - Create clarity on roles, workload, and capacity across the team
  • - Personally advise, as needed, on the most complex, senior, and high-stakes searches (Director+, technical, or time-sensitive roles)
  • - Own Greenhouse: configuration, data quality, reporting, and AI tooling
  • - Establish recruiting metrics that matter [time-to-fill, pipeline conversion, source effectiveness, hiring manager satisfaction] and use them to drive decisions
  • - Standardize and simplify processes across the full hiring lifecycle, from JD creation through offer
  • - Develop and embed structured interview frameworks and calibration practices that reduce bias and improve hiring quality
  • - Build GiveDirectly's outbound sourcing capability from the ground up
  • - Partner with hiring managers and senior leaders to shift TA's role from reactive fulfillment to proactive planning
  • - Build and own headcount planning and management processes in partnership with Finance and People Ops

Required Skills

  • - 7+ years of talent acquisition experience, with at least 3 in a leadership role
  • - Demonstrated experience scaling a TA function through hypergrowth or significant organizational change
  • - Experience leading global workforce planning: headcount planning, role criticality assessments, scenario planning
  • - Strong command of recruiting operations: ATS management (Greenhouse a plus), data and metrics, and process design
  • - Excellent stakeholder management
  • - Experience in a global non-profit, international development organization, or mission-driven company with Africa presence preferred

Benefits

  • - A supportive team that works hard and cares hard
  • - A robust health benefits plan (exact details will vary by country)
  • - Flexible paid time off that staff is encouraged to take
  • - Allowances for desk set-up and learning and development

About the company

GiveDirectly is a nonprofit organization that helps people living in extreme poverty by delivering unconditional cash transfers directly to recipients via mobile payments. Operating across countries including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Bangladesh, the DRC, and the United States, GiveDirectly enables governments, foundations, and individual donors to move resources efficiently and transparently to those who need them most. By using technology to identify recipients, deliver payments end-to-end, and rigorously measure impact through randomized controlled trials, GiveDirectly is reshaping international development—putting choice and agency in the hands of recipients while building one of the most scalable, evidence-driven models in global aid.
