Job Description
Open Energy Transition (OET) is a non-profit organisation advancing the global energy transition by developing innovative open-source tools and data solutions for energy and grid planning.
Responsibilities
- - Advise OET on how TSOs and regulators integrate long-term energy planning into operational and investment decisions.
- - Bridge the gap between open-source modelling tools and internal planning workflows of TSOs.
- - Provide insight into how capacity expansion and production-cost models inform infrastructure planning and adequacy studies.
- - Identify institutional “systems of change” within TSOs, including processes and regulatory oversight relevant for model adoption.
- - Support the design of capacity-building sessions and documentation to align OET products with TSO analytical needs.
- - Contribute to internal knowledge transfer by mentoring OET staff on TSO processes, decision frameworks, and policy drivers.
- - Participate in stakeholder engagement with TSOs, regulators, and system-planning bodies across regions.
Required Skills
- - 7+ years minimum experience required in a Transmission System Operator, system planning consultancy, or regulatory body overseeing power system transformation.
- - Demonstrated experience in energy planning, capacity expansion, or production-cost modelling.
- - Familiarity with the interaction between long-term system studies and regulatory or investment processes.
- - Strong understanding of decarbonization pathways, system flexibility, and cross-sectoral integration.
- - Excellent communication skills and ability to translate between technical modelling and organizational decision-making.
- - Bonus points if you’ve worked at a TSO, at a startup, or in the general energy sector before.
- - Bonus points if you're already located in, or are willing to relocate to Brussels, Belgium.
- - Fluency in English.
- - Thrive in a highly self-managed, remote, transparent work culture.
Benefits
- - A truly flexible work environment where you’re trusted to work very autonomously.
- - Zero micro-management, as that goes against our culture.
- - The opportunity to support hardworking, passionate, busy leaders who value and respect your contributions.
- - A culture that values transparency, empathy, trust, humility, diversity, collaboration, and recognition.
- - Supportive onboarding and training, tailored to your strengths, interests, and career ambitions.
