Manager, Software Engineering, Fullstack (Repayment UX Engineering)

Overview

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

Job Description

The Repayment UX team owns one of the most high-trust surfaces across Affirm’s products: the moment a customer pays us back. We’re a full-stack team based entirely in Europe within the same time zone, but culturally rooted in Silicon Valley.

Responsibilities

  • - Lead and grow a well-balanced team of engineers – setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and developing each engineer toward their next level.
  • - Own the team’s technical strategy and multi-quarter roadmap, tying it to initiatives that build customer trust and move Affirm’s business.
  • - Empower your tech lead and engineers to hold the design and quality bar, supporting them hands-on throughout technical design and cross-functional alignment.
  • - Own the availability, reliability, and performance of consumer-critical systems – on-call, incident response, and reducing operational toil.
  • - Keep the team shipping in small increments, breaking large programs into sprint-sized milestones with clear, accountable owners.
  • - Partner across Product, Design, and Analytics, and other Engineering teams, building trust and taking part in cross-functional efforts.
  • - Guide the team to multiply their output through focus and leverage, including agentic AI.
  • - Drive hiring and onboarding to grow a diverse, high-performing team, and foster a culture of ownership, quality, and transparency.
  • - Participate in on-call rotation as a requirement.

Required Skills

  • - 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams.
  • - Proven experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity.
  • - Track record of managing performance directly – setting clear expectations, giving candid feedback, and developing engineers toward results and growth.
  • - Technical judgment required to guide architecture, quality, and reliability decisions.
  • - Experience leading significant technical initiatives end-to-end, ideally decoupling or re-platforming consumer-facing systems within clear time constraints.
  • - Familiarity with modern full-stack development – declarative UI frameworks like React or React Native, and a backend-for-frontend behind them.
  • - Calm, decisive presence through change and ambiguity – building alignment, resolving tensions, and leading others through complex decisions.
  • - Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with global cross-functional teams.

Benefits

  • - Flexible Spending Wallets for tech, food and lifestyle
  • - Away Days - wellness days to take off work and recharge
  • - Learning & Development programs
  • - Parental benefit
  • - Employee Resource & Community Groups
  • - Health care coverage - Affirm covers all premiums for all levels of coverage for you and your dependents
  • - Time off - competitive vacation and holiday schedules allowing you to take time off to rest and recharge
  • - ESPP - An employee stock purchase plan enabling you to buy shares of Affirm at a discount

About the company

We started Affirm because credit cards aren’t working. They lure us in with perks, but end up costing a lot: The average U.S. household has $6,000 in credit card debt. With Affirm, you’ll never owe more than you agree to up front. Instead, you’ll always get a flexible, transparent, and convenient way to pay over time.
